RIM to Unveil New Software Application

Now this is some welcome news here at NB. RIM, the makers of Blackberry, will be offering a windows mobile version of their popular email communication software. Being an active user of a Treo700wx I can say that I will be happy to try this application out.

The application replaces the Windows layout and icons on the display with the look of the BlackBerry interface, customized to the specific buttons and screen size of that device. A non-BlackBerry device would then be able to connect with BlackBerry servers for e-mail, calendar, address book and other applications written for the platform by RIM and third-party developers.

A user would be able to toggle back and forth between the two platforms if they want, for example, to use the Windows Media Player to listen to music.

Hopefully this software will not negatively impact the RIM network.

Former Russian Leader Yeltsin Dead

Not tech news but, news that caught me off guard. Did anyone else think that he was alive? News to me.

Former Russian President Boris Yeltsin has died at the age of 76, the Kremlin said on Monday.

Yeltsin, who had suffered health problems since resigning from office on December 31, 1999, suffered sudden heart failure, medical sources told Russia’s Interfax news agency.

The Kremlin said his funeral would take place amid a day of national mourning on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.

Yeltsin became the first democratically elected president of Russia in 1991 and two months later put down a coup attempt against Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

Well, what do you know?

Why Linux is the perfect system for people who hate computers

From the Guardian UK:

We’ve had computers powerful enough to be effortlessly useful for ages now. In fact, there is probably one in your attic. Even a 10-year-old PC will work perfectly well as a well-connected typewriter, which is all that most people want or need.

And even Windows 98, however much we despise it, is pretty foolproof against user incompetence. The trouble is that it is ridiculously insecure. It ought to be a criminal offence to connect a computer running Windows 98 to the net via broadband.

Top secret features suspect in Apple’s Leopard delay

From Apple Insider:

“While Apple cited a shift in resources to iPhone and more time for developers to beta test as reasons for the delay, our analysis indicates that if not for the ’secret’ features, the core Leopard operating system would likely have shipped on time,” American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu told clients on Friday. “We believe the extra time Apple is allocating is for developers to test secret features that will likely be revealed at its WWDC 2007 conference starting on June 11, 2007.”

Wow, Holy Subscribers Batman!

Well, as part of my house cleaning I added some scripts to help me harvest all of the subscribers into a Feedbuner feed. Let’s just say I was blown away when I realized just how many people read this site. My apologies for the half assed approach I have taken lately as I’ve been focused on my other sites. Now that I know how many people are reading Nine Baud I will make a concerted attempt to start updating this site daily. For those of you who have been good enough to last this long, THANKS!
