Gmail Integrates Google Spreadsheets

Here is something rather cool with Google’s Gmail. They have integrated with Google Spreadsheets.

From Lifehacker: “I’ve been waiting for a better kind of web office integration forever (well, for at least a couple months), so this is very exciting news. So far we’re not seeing any love with Word documents, but one might imagine it’s only a matter of time. If you hate installing expensive/bloated software on your computer but need to view a spreadsheet every now and then, this should be a happy day for you.”

Treo or Blackberry?

I’m in the middle of trying to figure out which mobile device I want to pick up. I’m leaning towards the Treo. I found this great post on The Apple Blog dot com which tackles this very question.

I need a PDA Cell Phone for my job, but I want to get one that will still work well with my [at-home] MacBook. I’m tied-in to Cingular, and have narrowed the field down to either the Treo 650, or the BlackBerry 7130. I’d like to know - from your own experiences - which is more OS X friendly.

Here are some of the things I’m looking for:
- Ability to easily stay up to date on Work email (exchange server)
- Good tie-in with my Outlook Calendar from work
- Ability to easily check my Gmail - probably through POP
- Bluetooth for syncing with my MacBook, as well as headset
- A good Speakerphone
- Decent web browsing.
- And obviously, happy integration with my Mac/OS X

The crowd seems to be leaning towards the Treo as well.

NutritionData Calorie Counter

As I try to lose pounds (10 down, 5 to go) I am pleased to find this tool. The Calorie Counter from NutritionData is an online resource that can help you to plan out your intake.

ND is the easy way to determine what’s good and bad about the foods you eat. Search for foods by name with ND’s FoodSearch tool (in the top right corner of every page), then click on the resulting links to view each food’s nutritional analysis.

When the food you’re looking for isn’t in ND’s database, you can still analyze it with the help of ND’s Custom Entry Tool.

Password Exporter Firefox Extension

Here is a very cool Firefox extension. The “Password Exporter” extension will work on Mac/Linux/Windoze.

Create either an XML or CSV text file of your password information - with the option to encrypt it for extra security - for easy transferring, say, from one computer to another. The Password Exporter is also great for anyone who’s moving their saved Firefox passwords to a new password manager, like KeePass. The Password Exporter extension is a free download, and it works everywhere Firefox does

Take Control of Fonts in Mac OS X

I know that I’m prone to messing about with my fonts. I basically keep everything and keep adding new ones. But, if you are someone who tends to delete fonts that you don’t use here is a good article on Macworld to help you avoid deleting ones that you absolutely need.

When you don’t want to use a font, and won’t want to use it again in the foreseeable future, you remove it. When you want it hanging around for easy access or a recurring project but don’t want it cluttering your Font menus in the meantime, you can disable it instead.

This piece pulls from the book Take Control of Fonts in Mac OS X.
